actual german compound nouns:
Staubsauger (vaccuum cleaner, literally “DUST SUCKER”)
Vorhang (curtain, literally “HANGS IN FRONT”)
Wasserkocher (kettle, literally “WATER BOILER”)
this is why german is the best
Also, not the case… top to bottom
Muffin is usually Muffin, have never heard Brotpilz
Handgelenk is ‘hand joint’ not hand ankle
The next one is also Karussel
The next one is just Metermaß - metre measure. Although, admittedly the wooden ones are Zoll Stock, which would be inch stick
Yeah, ok, Schneckenhaus is snail house
Next one’s just Topf, so pot, have never heard of a Herdschüssel.
There are Kerzenanzünder, which are the lighters with the long bit on the end, but these are Streichholz, that’s wood that’s struck.
And Eiswürfel are litterally ice cubes (though Würfel also translates as die or dice).
So yeah, we have a lot of great compound words, but most of these are not any German ones.
